What is a Laser? – Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation
Ours is a Class IV laser (medical-grade light therapy), which means it can pose a risk to eyesight if directly stared at. We use goggles or a face cover for clients and pets!

How does medical-grade laser therapy work?
Light is absorbed (superficial and deep) and transmitted to target tissues.
This causes photobiomodulation and tissue remodeling.

How does medical-grade laser therapy differ from “red light therapy” with LEDs?
- Medical-grade laser: Has a coherent, cohesive, and collimated beam of light that penetrates superficial and deep tissue (light waves are lined up and coordinated for better penetration).
- Red light therapy: Non-coherent and diffuse over a broad area (less targeted, superficial only).
What about Cold Laser Therapy or LLLT (low-level laser therapy)?
These modalities refer to Class III lasers, which have lower output and do not have as much clinical effect.
Ours is a Class IV laser, so it is medical-grade and supported by evidence-based science.
Protective eyewear:
- Doggles for pets; goggles or laser glasses for humans – should have the OD wavelengths listed on the eyewear (not regular glasses or sunglasses).
- For patients who won’t tolerate other coverage, the operator’s hand can be used over the eyes (this may cause some scatter of the laser).
- A towel or lens-cleaning cloth is also an option for head-shy patients.
